
PENNIE TAYLOR (CHAIR)Journalist and Broadcaster | Pennie Taylor is a freelance journalist and broadcaster who specialises in health matters. A former BBC Scotland Health Correspondent, she has also worked for a number of newspapers including The Sunday Herald and Scotland on Sunday. Pennie has a particular interest in public involvement in NHS development, and has led national and local consultations on a range of issues. Having worked as Head of Communications for the-then Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust between 2000 and 2002, she knows how things operate inside the health service as well as on newsdesks. This gives her a uniquely informed perspective from which to approach, and stimulate, debate. |

ROS MOOREChief Nursing Officer and ChairHAI Taskforce | Ros Moore took up the post of Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland in January 2010. In this role she advises the Cabinet Secretary and Ministers on all matters relating to nursing, midwifery, and the allied health professions and is Director with lead responsibility for Person-Centred Care, Healthcare Associated Infection and Regulation of Healthcare professionals Ros commenced her nursing career in 1981. She held posts in clinical practice and in nurse education before becoming professional development manager and then assistant director in an acute trust. After that she went to NHS Direct as Lead Nurse, helping to establish the service nationally. She then went on to become Professional Officer in the office of the CNO (England) where she led on a range of issues, including acute care, research and Modernising Nursing Careers. Immediately prior to taking up the post of CNO, Ros was Director of Nursing, NHS Connecting for Health. This strategic role saw her working closely with the Department of Health, Health Authorities and professional organisations in England to provide executive level leadership on nursing, midwifery and AHP issues inside and outside the organisation. Ros is married with three children. She teaches part time for the Open University and has been a school governor for over 10 years. |

PROFESSOR HUGH PENNINGTONEmeritus Professor of BacteriologyUniversity of Aberdeen | Hugh Pennington trained in medicine and obtained his PhD at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School, London. After 10 years at the MRC Institute if Virology, Glasgow, in 1979 he was appointed Professor of Bacteriology at the University of Aberdeen. He became Emeritus in 2003. He chaired the Public Inquiry into the 2005 South Wales E.coli O157 outbreak. He was a Desert Island Discs Castaway in 2009 and currently writes and blogs for the London Review of Books. |

IAN GOULDConsultant & Service Clinical DirectorMedical Microbiology, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary | Ian graduated in Medicine in 1976 from Edinburgh and now holds the position of Consultant Clinical Microbiologist and Director of Medical Microbiology at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He is the Honorary Professor of Public Health, Epidemiology and Microbiology at the University of Trnava and trained in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in UK, Canada and Africa. He is also Editor or Board member of several international journals and Chairman of various national/international working parties, learned societies and advisory boards on Antibiotic Policies and Resistance. He advises on antibiotic resistance and prescribing to the Scottish and UK Departments of Health, Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics, The International Organisation for Epizoonosis, European Commission, WHO, and Government agencies abroad. He has over 300 published scientific papers on antibiotic resistance in peer-reviewed journals, standard texts and specialist books. |

In addition he is the Professor and Director of Hospital Acquired Infection at the University of the West of Scotland. Bob is a Fellow of 3 Royal Colleges in the UK. A strong advocate of evidence based medicine Bob has sat on 6 United Kingdom (UK) guideline groups and Chaired the UK Working Party that published guidelines on Hospital Acquired Pneumonia in 2008. |

DR. JASON LEITCHNational Clinical Lead for QualityThe Scottish Government | Following the publication of the Scottish Government’s Quality Strategy in May 2010, Jason was appointed as National Clinical Lead for Quality. From November 2007 until then he was the National Clinical Lead for Safety and Improvement. He is part of the senior team responsible for implementation of the NHSScotland Quality Strategy. Jason was the 2011 HFMA UK Clinician of the Year. Jason is on secondment from his academic post as an Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery at the University of Glasgow Dental School in Scotland. He is a non-executive Board member of AQuA in the North-East of England. He was a 2005-06 Quality Improvement Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, in Boston, sponsored by the Health Foundation. Jason is also a trustee of the UK wing of the Indian Rural Evangelical Fellowship which runs orphanages in southeast India. He has a doctorate from the University of Glasgow, an MPH from Harvard and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He chairs the Conduct and Health Committees of the General Dental Council, the regulatory body for dentistry in the UK. |

DR. STEPHANIE DANCERConsultant MicrobiologistNHS Lanarkshire and Editor of the Journal of Hospital Infection | Dr Stephanie Dancer BSc, MB.BS, MSc, DTM&H, MD, FRCPath is a Consultant Microbiologist in NHS Lanarkshire, and the current editor of the Journal of Hospital Infection. She trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London (1977–83), followed by postgraduate studies in Pathology at Guy’s Hospital, where she gained a thesis on the epidemiology and biochemistry of toxin-producing staphylococci. She has worked in various remote areas of the world, including Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Vietnam and the Canadian High Arctic, and published her experiences, albeit with a microbiological slant. She spent six years as the Control of Infection Officer for Argyll before moving to Health Protection Scotland as their inaugural microbiologist (2002–05). At present, she balances clinical and editorial duties with research projects on the control of MRSA, specifically the role of cleaning. |

PROFESSOR JUDITH TANNERUniversity Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust | Judith is the Professor of Clinical Nursing Research at De Montfort University. Her main area of research is surgical site infections and her work has had a direct impact on patient care and on policy at a local, national and international level. This includes World Health Organisation guidelines and national guidelines in the UK, USA and Australia. She is a former Editor of the Journal of Perioperative Practice and was given an award by the Association of Perioperative Practice for her contribution to research within operating room practice. Judith has published widely and spoken at conferences all over the world. |
